Overview
The Galaxy Rasbora, or Celestial Pearl Danio, is a jewel-like nano fish with a steel-blue body scattered with pearly spots and red-and-black barred fins. It comes from shallow, plant-choked spring-fed pools in Shan State, Myanmar. It suits cooler planted nano tanks and peaceful communities.
- Adult Size: Around 2–2.5 cm (1 in)
- Lifespan: 3–5 years
Origin
- Native to: Shan State, eastern Myanmar
- Habitat: Shallow flooded grassland pools with dense plants
Feeding
- Diet: Omnivorous micropredator
- Preferred Foods: Daphnia, baby brine shrimp, microworms, micro granules, crushed flake
- Feeding Habits: Small feeds twice daily; rarely feeds at the surface
Tank Mates
- Best with: Ember tetras, Boraras, pygmy corydoras, dwarf shrimp
- Avoid: Larger, boisterous or surface-hogging fish
Aggression & Behaviour
- Temperament: Peaceful but timid
- Territoriality: Males spar constantly but harmlessly
Experience Level
- Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate
- Challenges: Shy without dense planting and a large group
Water Parameters
- Water Type: Freshwater, medium hard, neutral
- Temperature: 20–26°C (68–79°F)
- pH: 6.5–7.5
- Hardness: 5–15 dGH
- Flow: Slow
- Tank Size: Minimum 40 litres for a group; bigger groups spread sparring
Final Notes
Keep as many as possible, ideally twenty or more, so male sparring is spread out and the fish gain confidence rather than hiding. They dislike high temperatures, so no heater is often needed in a warm room. Egg-scatterers with no parental care; adults will eat eggs, so remove them or use dense moss. Males are far more colourful, females plainer with a golden belly. Densely planted, they reward you with constant colour displays.
