Black Emperor Tetra Nematobrycon Palmeri 2cm Overview: The Black Emperor Tetra, scientifically known as Nematobrycon palmeri, is a stunning freshwater fish known for its elegant appearance and peaceful demeanor. With its dark, almost black body and shimmering blue-green eyes, this tetra adds a touch of sophistication to any aquarium. Origin: Native to the slow-moving rivers and tributaries of Colombia in South America, the Black Emperor Tetra thrives in soft, acidic waters rich in plant life. Its natural habitat includes areas with plenty of leaf litter and vegetation, providing both cover and breeding sites. Feeding: Black Emperor Tetras are omnivores and enjoy a varied diet. Offer them high-quality flake or micro-pellet foods as a staple, supplemented with live or frozen options like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. A varied diet helps maintain their health and enhances their vibrant coloration. Tank Mates: These peaceful tetras are ideal for community tanks and can be kept with other non-aggressive species such as small tetras, rasboras, Corydoras catfish, and peaceful dwarf cichlids. They thrive in groups of six or more, where their social behaviors and striking appearance are most evident. Aggression: Black Emperor Tetras are generally peaceful but can exhibit mild territorial behavior, particularly among males. However, this is usually limited to harmless displays, and they coexist well with other peaceful fish. Experience Level: Beginner to Intermediate. Black Emperor Tetras are hardy and relatively easy to care for, making them suitable for aquarists of all experience levels. Their adaptability to a range of water conditions makes them a great choice for those new to fishkeeping. Water Parameters: To keep Black Emperor Tetras healthy and vibrant, maintain water temperatures between 72-80°F (22-27°C), a pH of 6.0-7.5, and soft to moderately soft water (4-12 dGH). A tank with plenty of plants, dim lighting, and areas of shade will best replicate their natural environment. In summary, the Black Emperor Tetra is a regal and peaceful species that brings beauty and tranquility to any aquarium. With their striking coloration and easygoing nature, they make a wonderful addition to community tanks for aquarists of all levels.
